Revolutionary Movements in South Asia (HIST-3405)
This upper-level seminar traces revolutionary movements across twentieth-century South Asia, from anti-colonial struggles—Gandhian, anarchist, Marxist, socialist, feminist, and peasant—to postcolonial land-reform and secessionist insurgencies. Students analyze political and social forces while developing historical interpretation and research skills.
Women’s History in South Asia (HIST-3408)
Examining South Asian women’s history from c.1750 to the contemporary postcolonial period, this course explores how colonization reshaped family, kinship, marriage, and sexuality. Through primary sources, students investigate labour, caste, partition experiences, and postcolonial politics of inclusion.
South Asian Diaspora Since 1800 (HIST-3118)
This advanced course explores the historical trajectories, migration patterns, and community formations of the South Asian diaspora. Students examine the intersections of empire, labour, and identity from the nineteenth century to the present.

History of East Asia since 1500 (HIST-2414)
Focusing on the political, economic, and cultural transformations of China, Japan, and Korea, this course surveys East Asia in the era of Western imperialism and Asian resurgence over the last two centuries.
